The Star in the Darkness

Orion stood before the graves of his parents as he did every year on the anniversary of their deaths.  Though they were cold and gone, they were the only people with whom he could speak openly anymore.  Under that cold, gray autumn sky, his heart cried out for an end to his loneliness—for someone to share his life with, a light in the growing darkness of his world.  Unbeknownst to Orion, the answer to his prayer was coming, and her arrival would bring him to the edge of madness and the apex of joy, while forcing him to confront a question with which he had been struggling:
